So I hope you all had a great Christmas. How was it? Mine was good. Can finally show you what I got my other half for Christmas...
Well it was part of it, but took freaking long to make. I made him a tie using the same material as my school ball dress from this year, which I guess you could say was our first date together (sorta. not really.) But do you know how long it takes to blindstitch the back spine of a tie? And this is like over a metre long...so yes, it took ages.
But hey, a lot of love (sweat and mild iron burns) went into it, and I'm glad he says he loves it.
Other half may have beat me in the price range however...
Super sweet of him to get me a MP4 player (8GB). Though much more than I expected for him to spend on me. But he says it was to combine all my loves of music, and Switchfoot ahhaha. Such a sweetie, I'm not giving him up.
He solved my crappy Rubiks Cube.
The story behind this is that I bought this $3.50 "Magic Cube" in Tokoroa back in 2000 while me and the fam were tripping round the North Island (of NZ) mainly around the Taupo area. But since that trip, it's remained unsolved.
I found it in my garage the other day. 9 years later, and this thing is crappy with its stiffness and falling apart into bits-ness.
But boyfriend solved it in a Sunday lunchtime (would have done it faster he said, but cause it was falling apart it made it harder to solve.)
But 9 freaking years....and now it's complete. Sorta. The corners are falling off and chucks are crumbling off.
Anyway, he's off to an island of a reception-less sort for this New Years break, but he's left me one of his rubiks to solve. I started it as soon as he left. I have 3 more days. And I'm not even close...too much math involved with this. No wonder nerds are good at this. =P
This rubiks cube is making me miss him more, cause he can't help me solve it now. (and no, I don't want to use the websites. I don't want to cheat that badly. hahaha)
Wow, hard to believe its pretty much end of year...What a ride its been. I'm so far from where I was this time last year. So much has happened, mostly the fact that now blog posts mention Boyfriend.
I'm gonna reminisce later. First, bed time.
Merry Christmas my friends,
To that, I treat you with a song....
Hope for lots of love and joy to you and your loved ones.
And that you didn't get deafened by the song. :P
Meant to post this the other day...
The Great Gatsby - GRAPHIC NOVEL.
And for some reason, Gatsby is a seahorse.
I just got it from the library a couple of days ago, found it in the teen section. I thought it would be humourous to read :P
Can't compare to the original though. But I'll see :D
So how do you spend your Christmas?
At my house, we've got a tradition of Christmas Eve dinner. Lots of food: turkey, ham, potatoes, salad, drool.
haha, not part of the food but thats what I do when I see the food.
We got my family here in NZ coming together, and sometimes family friends or workmates etc. Either way, it's quite a few people round the table.
We're all here for the food though. My mum's an awesome cook.
Then we'll open presents at midnight, or earlier if people have to leave.
Either way, I love the holidays :D
I don't get to see Boyfriend till tomorrow at church though, that's when we're exchanging gifts. I'm so keen to give my present to him already cause I worked freaking long on it.
I would post up pictures, but not online yet...not till tomorrow then.
Happy Christmas Eve! Soak up the sun/soak up the snow - where ever you are. :P
Today, I saw this.
Contrary to my sister's belief that this somehow related to "Avatar - The Last Airbender" cartoon tv series, it doesn't.
Anyway, I saw it today with a couple of friends of mine at the local movie theatre, in Digital 3D. I gotta say, 3D is pretty cool and all, but you know, this movie would be able to hold up on its own without 3D.
Visually amazing, it is pretty much seamless with the CGI combined with real life scenes. The scenes at night as well in Pandora (the planet) is just glowing with all these different colours, a setting which makes you wish you could be a part of it.
The storyline, as my friend put it, was simple enough to follow. I think its pretty important because to me, the main attraction of this film is more the 3D technology, rather than the amazing storyline. Thoug that's not to say that the storyline is terrible. Cameron's past films is a running example of how he can capture an audience, and Avatar is no exeption. The story isn't all complicated in hundreds of subplots which I'm very thankful for, because any longer and I would have lost all feeling in my body. I had pins and needles within 2 hours, and by the last half hour, I was feeling quite sore.
I'm the sort of person that can't sit still to watch a movie for that long. Unless I'm in a relaxed position, like lying over the couch. Either way, I still need to move about than be confined to a chair for 165 minutes.
Characters are also simple like the storyline, and again, like my friend said, a few of the main characters could have been more complicated, but I'm also glad Cameron didn't over do it. That would have just been too hard to follow.
But overall, yeah, go see it. It is a good film, and it is worth looking at in the movies. Difference between 3D and 2D is just the matter of how quickly you can get absorbed in the story. I mean I still have to take off the glasses every once in a while during the film, and the way that things can be unfocused in the foreground is annoying, but hey, invite people to watch it. You'll really get into the emotion of it too.
Have to say though, at the end of the film, people in the audience (fully packed theatre) ended up clapping as the credits rolled. Maybe it's just me, but doesn't it seem a bit silly to clap? Cause its not like James Cameron is hiding out in the foyer, listening in to how the audience reacts...And its not like the characters are gonna come bow in the end of the film...No one can hear it...so it's just weird to me.
Wow, so slackage on my part for the lack of postage. You would think me being on holidays would mean much more time to post, but no. It just means more time to be lazy.
Though I have been busy with shopping, sewing, and I spent last Saturday helping my other half with cleaning his storage container.
I have to say though, shopping for my other half is something that is new to me. I've never been with someone during Christmas. So finding something is just real difficult. Plus it doesn't help when they go "Oh its okay, I don't need anything."
Dude, its the holidays. I gotta get you something and it's gotta be good.
Not that what I give decides the fate of your relationship, but when they say that its the thought that counts, heck I'm doing million dollars worth of thinking for this gift.
Anyway, I'm working on it right now and should probably get back to it. I have an idea that is probably both meaningful in thought and effort to get lol.
I'll leave you with Christmas music. Cause at this time of year, (the week of Christmas) its the only time I find it acceptable to play Christmas music (and not in October like Kmart thinks.)
I love Relient K's Christmas music. Plus anything with thieving bunnies and angry snowmen gotta be good.
So, Paramore tickets for Auckland's concert were pulled off for some odd reason... Possibly sell out? Who knows. But anyway, I still want a lot of my friends to go, so I was pretty happy when I heard this...
"A further allocation of tickets for Paramore will be made available on Friday[source CDM]
18th December at 9am. This concert is moving to a different venue in Auckland,
please check back on Wednesday morning for new venue details."
I'm super curious about this. Cause I'm meant to have tickets to the Auckland Paramore concert so I want to know where the new venue is...I'm just hoping it's not Trust Stadium, apparently you can't take cameras into it. That would be lameeee.
Edit: Darn. it is in Trust Stadium.
Heck yes I bought it. Finally.
JB Hi-Fi managed to have the SPECIAL EDITION of it, which I happily paid $31.99 for.
Gots the DVD too which I haven't watched yet, cause I'm gonna go watch Big Bang Theory in a minute haha.
But its another album to add to my SF collection :D
Plus, it's awesome :P
Recommend 'Your Love is a Song' and 'Enough to Let Me Go' to listen, cause they're my favourites. Along with 'Always' and 'Needle and Haystack Life' which come close too.
I'm a happy person. This has been my long, overdue Graduation present, since the album was released the same day I finished high school.
Also, I love special edition Switchfoot albums :D
The newest thing to my collection of bags.
The Estelle Bag from Burdastyle.com
I've sewn this with the scraps of Stage Challenge Can-Can material (the red satin, I've seriously got massive chunks of these offcuts), black satiny/nylon stuff (its tough stuff, and awesomely waterproof) and silver snap fasteners.
Currently I'm still without a decent pocket camera, and so using the webcam is easier to take photos with for now. (I'm too lazy to get my big camera.)
I put interfacing on the straps to reinforce them a little...should have put more to be honest.
Its a cute bag anyway. :D I'm keen to make myself a few more of these hahah
Also the other stuff sewn these holidays so far:
One black half circle skirt/top
One red obi belt (also made from left over Can-Can material ahahaha)
Yes, I'm very much into black and red.
That and I really have a lot of that red satin left.
If anyone wants to buy stuff made with red satin, feel free to let me know.
Next project....to sew a black obi belt I think. And to tackle the rest of the leftover Stage Challenge material haha.
And since the weather has been crap, it actually makes it okay to sleep till noon. :D
Seriously though, I've actually been struggling to sleep that long because thanks to speeding bus drivers and boy racers, they're putting in speed bumps on my street, which results in loud machinary at 8am. THANK YOU 70KM DRIVERS IN A 50 ZONE.
Paramore ticket presales today! 9am till 9am I think it was.
I'm not buying presales, thanks to my free double pass from The Edge FM :D
Kudos to you guys and making me freak out on live radio. Means a lot. XD
No seriously, thanks for the free tickets. I'm poor since I have no job, so it helps loads :D
Anyway, can't say much is happening.
I'm sewing heaps. BurdaStyle.com keeps me entertained :P
I should totally start posting up what I sew. I plan on creating a whole new wardrobe for myself for Uni next year. If anyone is keen on getting into my sewing fest, drop me a line. I'll do it for cash :P
(I gotta pay for my sewing some how...haha)
In the past 2 days, I've sewn a new top/skirt in a black stretchy material.
Pretty much a round skirt with elastic at the top, tight enough for me to wear it as a top, and wear it as a skirt too.
Also, to pair it off with that I've made a red obi belt.
I'll post more about it in the morning when I can take a picture of it.
But yeah, here's to 3 months worth of sewing ahead!
You cannot know how much I've missed having the time to make stuff. :P
